Northeastern faculty members understand the trends emerging in today’s fastest-growing industries, because many serve as leaders, scholars, and practitioners within those industries.
Our faculty’s expertise, research, and professional experience span a wide range of growing fields, including information technology, engineering, finance, biotechnology, and health management. Professors integrate their work into the classroom to provide students with hands-on experience and relevant real-world industry insights.
But our faculty members don’t just teach—they serve as mentors and advisors, who help students discover new interests, develop updated skills, and carve out their career path.
In our bachelor’s degree completion programs, some of the industry-aligned faculty our students learn from include:
Earlene Avalon, lead faculty for the Bachelor of Science in Health Management and Health Science programs, who’s spent more than 15 years in health management and academia—most recently as the director of nursing diversity initiatives at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Guido Wilfred Lopez, an associate teaching professor in mechanical engineering, who received the 2009 Best Paper Award from the ASEE Division of Experimentation and Laboratory Studies. His interests include thermofluids and conventional and alternative energy conversion and conservation.
Winner of the 2011-12 Professional Faculty Excellence Award, Lynda Hodgson is an assistant teaching professor in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program. She previously served as a corporate consultant for Data Blueprint and Invensys, which is now Schneider Electric.
Francesca Grippa, lead faculty and associate teaching professor in the Bachelor of Science in Management program, previously worked as an instructional designer at IBM and, over the last decade, has been working as a research analyst to help various firms assess the structure and evolution of their project teams and communities.
Assistant Teaching Professor Elizabeth Zulick, lead faculty for the Bachelor of Science in Biological Science, Biotechnology, and the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical programs, who received an Environmental Protection Agency STAR Fellowship award to study the effects of environmental exposures on breast cancer.
Kristen Lee
, an assistant teaching professor for behavioral sciences, was the recipient of the 2012 Northeastern University College of Professional Studies Teaching Excellence Award. A Massachusetts-licensed independent clinical social worker, Lee founded Helping Helpers, a clinical and consulting practice devoted to preventing and treating professional burnout.
