Academic and Career Advisors
Our Goal Is Helping You Achieve Your Own
Students’ success is our top priority. It’s why we work with students individually to develop a Career and Academic Plan that will guide them effectively through their degree program and prepare them for success through graduation and beyond.
Career and Academic Coaches collaborate with students to establish a plan based off their previous school and work experience—identifying and determining how to best fill any knowledge and skills gaps, whether through specific courses or experiential learning opportunities. Together, the two chart a realistic, achievable, and timely path to graduation, before the student’s first class even begins. Coaches then serve as a support system throughout students’ journeys to ensure they stay on track to achieve the goals initially outlined in their academic and career plan.
Coaches also help connect students to additional resources, such as the Writing Center, International Tutoring Center, and personalized financial aid counseling. With coaches’ help, students learn interview basics, how to update their resumé to convey the relevant skills today’s employers are looking for, and how to best prepare for the professional opportunities that could come post-graduation.
Serving Those Who Served Our Country
Northeastern is committed to helping veterans and servicemembers achieve their educational and career aspirations. Our Center for the Advancement of Veterans and Servicemembers (CAVS) offers mentorship opportunities and assistance with the transition to civilian life, while the university provides outstanding financial support, including the highest level of funding possible for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
Military students have an active voice on campus. Northeastern’s Student Veterans Organization was named Chapter of the Year in 2013, and develops camaraderie through involvement in community engagement, volunteering, and social events. Since its founding in 2009, the organization has become an outlet for veterans to gather in a familiar environment to share stories and learn how to make the most of their Northeastern experience.
